Grant and Goleno take second place in OB Sports 2-man Scramble carding a 2-under-par 68 in windy conditions Sunday at Angel Park.
“We kept the drama to a mininum. Kept the ball in play and gave ourselves birdie opportunities. Goleno hit some great shots out there. The new driver is working for him,” said Grant.
With trophies on order, the 2nd place finish is the team’s best since winning the Corporate Challenge Golf Event in 2007. With 4 birdies and 2 bogeys, the team won on a score card playoff thanks to par-birdie-par finish on the final 3 holes of the front nine.
At the 7th with both players in difficult spots off the tee, the team used a Goleno fairway/hybrid to get greenside, a Grant chip to within 5 feet and a Goleno one putt to save par. With water short and bunker long, Grant secured birdie on the par-3 8th with a 8-iron to 12 feet and then drop the putt.
“We both were wearing the GOD LOVES GOLF polo shirts, and I just felt like we had help out there,” Grant said.
“I felt the energy as well. It never rained on us even though the wind and rain were howling around us,” commented Goleno.
