MGI Update – Days away

MGI news update:
.
Golf Talk Lounge and Golf Observer.com are reporting TK has had an injection to alleviate back pain. Keiper is said to be in good condition, and is resting in his Seattle area penthouse.  He has declared himself ready for Miami and the first tee Thursday.
.
He will reportedly avoid the Wednesday AM practice round (as will Goleno) and hit balls and work on his putting stroke instead to prepare for the 1pm official Wednesday practice round ($20 a man skins buy in) — The opening practice round is second only in prestige to the Masters Wednesday Par-3 contest.
.
In Other News:
.
– Experts are concerned with Team Mez as two players have switched clubs in the off-season including Slammin Sammy and newcomer Jeff Harris. As World No. 1 Luke Donald can attest after getting thumped by Ernie Els in Match Play on Wednesday, there is a period of adjustment.
– Reports are also surfacing that two members of Team Mez have hardly touched their clubs since the MGI 2011 debacle.
– Weather for the week ahead should rival some of the best the MGI has ever seen!

MGI 2012 News – Rookie changes clubs!

Breaking MGI news: Sky Golf, Gol films, Golf Talk Lounge and Golf Channel are reporting Miami Golf Invitational rookie Jeff Harris is feeling the pressure — one week before the tournament.
.
Harris is reportedly ordering a new set of clubs, set to arrive this Thursday. The pressure and his poor play of late caused the decision to purchased new equipment and revamp his swing.
.
“Big mistake,” said Butch Harmon. “Never change anything this close to a tournament.
.
“Harris also reported a pinched nerve in his neck to go along with a 13-oz ulcer in his stomach. The rookie pressure of the MGI is well documented.  Burt Keiper vomited on the first tee in 2010 and went on to an 0-3 record.
.

BK bounced back in 2011 with a 2-1 effort and stellar play. “The heart just beats so fast,” BK said. “It’s an honor to get invited, but then there’s the pressure to perform.”

Other Miami Golf Invitational News and Notes:
  • On Sunday, Todd Keiper sent a text to the MGI site, “I am lying on my back with a heating pad!’

  • Goleno loves his new hybrid, the Cleveland Mashie.
  • On the 18th, Mike Lynch decides to final start to book his flight to the MGI 2012
  • Also on Sunday, Allen Grant came from 4 down to beat Goleno 1 Up at the Angel Park Mountain course in awful windy and cool conditions. (see inset photo). “I got hot early, but had some mental lapses during the middle third of the round.” added Goleno, “My golf shots were pretty solid, the ball is going straight, and my putting has me ranked as one of the top putters in southern Nevada!”

Cincy Rookie Jeff Harris spotted practicing in the woods.

Feb 18-2012 - Cincinnati back woods – Rookie seen in duck hunting outfit working on swing.

It is unsure if he is wearing the same cargo pants that he wears when he duck hunts, but when you are playing a course in the back hills of Cincinnati to get ready for the Miami Golf Invitational does it really matter?

“It was 45 degrees outside, and yes, that is an actual golf course!” added Jeff Harris via his twitter account.

Slammin Sammy makes it to Las Vegas for pre MGI interview

Sam Messina was in Las Vegas last week, and had a chance to meet up with the MGI alum Craig Goleno for an interview and drinks.  Here are the excerpts.

CG: “Sam, first of all, thank you for making it out to Las Vegas before this years MGI.  Normally TK makes it

out, but due to is consistent back issues, his doctor has limited his flight schedule! Well, how do you feel about your game?”

SM: “Goleno, it is good to be out here, the Palazzo is a fantastic hotel.  My game is solid.  This is the first time in a few years that I actually feel healthy.  If you remember last year, I was all hopped up on Vicodin.”

CG:  ”Your game is solid, but your handicap went up 3 strokes since the 2011 MGI and the 2012 MGI.  How do you explain this?”

SM: “umm, well, umm, let’s get another drink, my treat!”

CG: “What, if any, equipment changes have you made in anticipation of the 2012 MGI?”

SM: “I have a completely new set from top down.  I may only use a few of the new clubs in Miami, but I have all new irons and woods.  I have the new Taylor Made R11S, and the new Rocketballz 3 wood that will certainly be in my Miami Bag.  That 3 wood goes FAR!”

CG: “Last year you had the R11, do you buy a new set every year?”

SM: “Not a complete set, but certainly a new driver every year.”

CG: “Moving on, have you had a chance to see any of the other Akron guys play recently and if so can you rate their game?”

SM: “Oh yeah, Burt Keiper!  He shot a couple of rounds that I witnessed in the mid 80′s, and he was killing the tee shot.  He is probably a 10 handicap, not a 16!”

CG: “Really, I didn’t see any of those scores on his recent GHIN update?”

SM: “Exactly, that is why TEAM TK always has a mental advantage.  Burt can get hot on the course.  You are a streaky player.  Lynch a 7 – seriously.  JB is JB, and is probably taking lessons as we speak.

CG: “What about Team Mez?”

SM: “Let’s start with Mez…..He probably hasn’t touched his golf clubs in 9 months.  He probably still plays those 25 year old DCI irons, and that Sasquatch driver that you can find today on Ebay for $29.  Lance is still in trauma from the waxing you gave him.  I was there when it happened.  Smiley hits it everywhere, but he is a gamer.  And then there is Grant with his own suntan lotion, michelob ultras, and 2 dollar bills …. it is tough to tell what game he will show up with in Miami.”

CG: “You don’t seem that confident?”

SM: “umm, well, umm (cackling) … let’s try some wine?”

CG: “Order a couple glasses of the Towbin James Notorious.”

SM: “You got it!”, “Speaking of wine, I have built quite a collection back at home.  I also look forward to getting back to that wine shop near the hotel, and picking up some more bottles there.  We need to get out by the pool more while the sun is still out!”

CG: “I agree! Thanks for taking the time to answer some golf related questions.  Now, let’s enjoy some beverages!”

“Thanks Sammy. Great Time!  Thanks for the drinks, especially the Basil Hayden Bourbon!” – Goleno

Medical Alert – TK seeks answers to his back problems.

With just weeks to go to the MGI 2012, Todd Keiper has announced that his back is causing problems again. This is the statement that he released on his twitter account.

Breaking News……..TK’s back went down yesterday! Injection tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed and pray to our lord, Jesus Christ for me boys………

TK has had on and off back problems for years that are very similar to those of Fred Couples, famous golfer.  Fred Couples, a Seattle native, was recently in his hometown, and offered this advice to Todd.

“Todd, I know exactly how you feel.  I could barely stand in place because of my back pain. I had tried countless treatments and injections.  I was looking for answers anywhere I could. I recently traveled to Dusseldorf, Germany, to receive a blood-spinning treatment called Orthokine – not approved for use in the United States – from Dr. Peter Welling, which other athletes like Alex Rodriguez, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, and Tiger Woods had used with great results.  It was a miracle Todd!”

Todd has had these problems before, and has used a successful quick fix in the past.

Todd is seen here in this 2008 file photo assures his team that he will be in the 2012 MGI, and he will play well!

“I will be good by tee time on the 29th boys!” exclaimed TK.
